Shen’s varsity wrestling team is now ranked first in New York state. Shen went 4-0 this weekend at the Union Endicott Duals.
They beat Spencerport in the semifinals with a 42-25 victory. They advanced to the finals against St. Anthony’s, where they trailed behind in points for most of the dual.
The team started out on the wrong foot, but the momentum began after the 189 match with Tony Fusco and a win at 215 with Michael Almaviva. Shen found some trouble at 285, 96 and 103 which put them behind. Corey Ali took control of his opponent at 112 getting Shen some much needed points, followed by Zach Joseph who tilted his way to victory. With a confusing forfeit, Shen managed to gain better match ups with their opponents. Shen was behind going into the last match at 145. Jim Carrucci took control and got Shen the much needed victory with a final score of 32-30.
