Tanning dangers

With the warmer weather approaching many teenagers are wanting to wear summer clothes like shorts and tanktops. This means that they need to be as tan as they can, as soon as possible. Many believe going to tanning salons are the simplest solution, but there are unknown serious risks assocaited with going in a tanning bed.

According to health.usnews.com, about 43% of indoor tanners do not know the dangers of tanning and about 30% have said they did not even notice the warning labels that are on the tanning beds.

Studies show that most teenagers who tan believe that tanning beds are more healthy than the sun, but they are wrong. Many teenagers and adults use tanning beds as a way to get a natural looking tan; however tans are signs of skin damage and the first sign of some skin diseases.

Different people have different opinions on the topic of tanning. Justine Pickel, a sophomore, said, “I think it is good unless overdone.” However sophomore Adelina Cekic said, “People should not tan because of health risks. Girls in high school who tan look superficial.”

Now that people are aware of the dangers of fake tanning, its a matter of what people and the U.S. are going to do about it. There is now a controversey about whether or not the United States should put an age limit on tanning. Should under people 18 years be able to expose themselves to the rays, and are they mature enough to make that harmful desicion?

While this debate is still continuing in the country today, tanning does not have a set age at the current time.
